NEW YORK, December 21.—The Ac- tors’ Dinner Club, Broadway's own Ver- slon of good fellowship, after serving 100,000 free meals to needy actors in #1s first year, tops its 1932 activities with an elaborate charity ball on New Year Eve. The ball promises to be one of the most colorful New Year entertainments held here in recent years, and despite the temper of the times a price of $20 a person has been fixed. The long list of patrons Include not only highly rated persons of the theater, but leaders in letters, society and the church as ‘well. The Actors’ Dinner Club came into being a year ago, when at one of Arthur Hopkins' rehearsals Selema Royle, Bes- sie Beatty and her husband, William Sauter, fell to discussing the plight of nlce:y actors, and evolved plans for the club. First headquarters were provided in a church in the East Forties, just off Broadway. Later the club was per- mitted to use the basement of one of the Loew Theaters, but when this site was leased recently it was permitted t> carry on its activities in a Forty-second street restaurant. A permanent home is one of the organization's objectives. Principal support comes from actors who contribute a certain percentage of their salaries each week, and from philanthropic donations.
