CHICAGO, November 18 (#).—Respon- sive to Liverpool quotations higher than expected, grain prices here showed an early upturn today. Reports from Liver- pool said Argentine crop estimates were being reduced. Opening unchanged to 35 advance, Chicago wheat futures held near afterward to the initial limits. Corn also started unchanged to 3 higher and continued firm. A greater tendency to accept current values as having discounted adverse conditions was noted by some wheat trade authorities. It was pointed out, however, that much would depend upon the volume of December liquidation still to be encountered. More confident feeling prevalent, though ascribed large- ly to lowness of prices, was also assert: ed to be based on more definite ideas as to likelihod of substantially lessened production of domestic Winter wheat the coming season. Assertions were likewise emphasized that American 1932 Spring wheat crop had been overesti- mated about 30,000,000 bushels. Rumors of crop damage by rain in Argentina accompanied advances of wheat_values. Firmness shown by the New York Stock Market led also to some purchasing of wheat futures. Sca tered selling, however, on the part of holders of December wheat contracts brought about reactions at times.
