By the Associated Press. LONDON, July 5—Great Britain to- day made good its threat to retaliate against the refusal of the Irish Free State to make further land annuity payments. A 100 per cent tariff on Free State goods was authorized last night by the House of Commons by an overwhelming vote. The vote was upcn a resolution cretary | ly con- ferred with Presicent de Valera in Dublin. Mr. Thomas said he received a note from the Free State government in- sisting that the annuities question be | arbitrated by an_international tribunal but that Great Britain could not con- sent to permit foreigners to a-bitrate domestic disputes. It would be neces- sary, he said, to proceed to collect the annuities with a tariff tax. Both governments have agreed to ar- bitration, but Britain has contended for & tribunal formed from the units of the empire, while the Free State| has insisted it is a question for an m-i ternational tribunal to decide | The land annuities, amounting to ap- | proximbtely $11,000,000 a year, were set | up by the Anglo-Irish treaty of 1921 and were intended to reimburse land- Plans Conclave AmilNEY HEADS GROUP FOR K.
