BARTHELMESS AMAZED AT STOCKS DIVERSION Former College Chum of Film Ac- tor and His Adviser to Accept Judgment in $72,233 Case. By the Assoclated Press. LOS ANGELES, June 22—Richard Barthelmess, film actor, who sought court aid to recover $72.233 in stocks from his former college chum and busi- ness adviser, D. S. Squires, testified Monday he was amazed when he learned Squires had used the stock as collateral without his knowledge. An attcrney, John Fleming, who rep- resented Squires, said Barthelmess’ former business adviser admitted re- c2-nsibility and was willing the judg- ment should be taken against him. The stock was used, Fleming said, in stock margin transactions. William Cavalier, a broker, who also was named defendant in the suit, testi- flpdkhe acted in good faith in using the stock.
