May 26.—Bonds dropped | into new low ground today under unre- ! lenting pressure from liquidation. Trad- ing was at‘a moderately active pace. The market opened narrowly under Tuesday's closing levels. There was some evidence of steadiness in United States Government long-term bonds, but subsequently offerings of these de- scrintions mcr(’;\.&cd heavily and prices gave way from '; to ': point in all Treasury and Liberty bonds with the ex- ception of Liberty 3'.s, which, being entirely tax-exempt. €njoy ‘a SCarcity demand along with high-grade munici- pal issues. The effect of the record low interest cost to the Treasury on its last $60.- 000,000 of 91-day bills was noticeable today in rates on commercial paper and time money. NEW YORK, May 25.—After an early decline under the influence of weakness in outside markets, with prices off about 14 of a cent from the high levels of the ‘week, the cotton market steadied today and closed around Tuesday's final quotations. ‘Though mill selling was again a fea- ture of the day the market developed resistance and, recovering all the early loss, ended around the best figures of the day. Special pressure again was in evidence in the public utllity and food divisions, but virtually all sections touched new lows.
