OFFICIALS' INCOMES HIT IN NEW YORK \City Club Demands Explana- tion of Bank Deposits Ex- ceeding Incomes. | By the Associated Press. | NEW YORK, May 9.—The City Club demanded in a public letter today that the income of seven city and county | officials, aggrezating $1,500,000, as re- vealed in the Hofstadter investigation, be explained at once. | _ The club based its demand upon Gov. | Roosevelt’s statement in dismissing Thomas M. Farley as sheriff last Feb- ruary. The Governor then said the public was entitled to know the sources of income of officials in excess of their salaries. Sheriff Farley's salary was $15,000 a year. His bank deposits in | five years were $360,000. The City Club named Peter J. Cur- ran, under-sheriff, whose salary was $7,- 500 and whose deposits were given by Samuel Seabury’s investigators as $662,- 311.11. In the seven cases, the de- posits covered the years of 1925, '26, 27, '28, '29, '30 and 31. The others cited were Joseph Flaherty, assistant deputy sheriff, $2,700 a year; deposits, $20,- 890.55. Michael J. Cruise, city clerk, $12,000; | deposits, $142,800.36. James J. McCormick, deputy clerk of the Board of Aldermen, gross income from the city, $96,000; deposits, $229,- 499.14. ‘Thomas J. Kelly, deputy chief inspec- | tor, Police Department, $6,300 & year; de] ts, $70,153.79. lward P. Sherry, City Court at- tendant, $3,720 (maximum); deposits, $156,669.72.
