By the Associated Press. A sword and other gifts presented to Gen. John J. Pershing in 1925 by President Gomez of Venezuela are being kept at the State Department until the commander of the A. E. Nogales, explaining he was an avowed enemy of President Gomez, said the | sword was “a priceless treasure belong- ing to the country and sacred to all | South America.” It was once owned by the Venezuelan patriot Paez. In official quarters, it was suggested that if a desecration of the nation’s historical archives was involved in President Gomez's gift, Nogales should ask the Venezuelan Legislature to take the necessary action.
