CANADA NEGOTIATING NEW ZEALAND PACT | Delegates Meet in Homolulu to Reach Trade Agreement Be- tween Two Dominions. By the Associated Press. HONOLULU, December 26.—Repre- sentatives of New Zealand and Canada arrived here yesterday to negotiate a trade agreement between the two na- tions. The conference was expected to last several day Harry H. Stevens, minister of trade | and commerce, led the seven Canadian delegates. Two hours after their ar- rival from Vancouver the New Zealand delegation of six disembarked from their liner. The New Zealand com- mittee included William Downie Stew- { art, minister of customs. Formal meetings of the two groups start_today. It *was anticipated that the trade agreement, when completed. will re- place the “gentlemen'’s agreement” for mutual British preference that has been honored for nearly 40 years. Lately, owing to party politics, New Zealand assertedly has treated Can- ada as a foreign nation, although both are dominions of Great Britain. New Zealand placed an embargo on Cana- dian fabricated and finished automo- biles. Canada placed an embargo on New Zealand butter. The conference will attempt to un- tangle this situation. BISHOP COOKE DIES IN TENNESSEE AT 78 Methodist Church Leader, Victim of Apoplexy, Was Author of Number of Books. By the Associated Press. ATHENS, Tenn, December 26— Bishop Richard J. Cooke, 78, of the Methodist Episcopal Church died at his home here yesterday. He had a stroke of apoplexy a month ago. Bishop Cooke was a native of New York. He received his D. D. degree at the University of Tennessee and LL. D. at Williamette University. He retired in 1920 at the General Conference. He was for four years a resident in the high altitude of Helena, Mont. He was also for four years resident bishop at Portland, Oreg. He was made a bishop in 1912 and was the author of a number of books on_religious subjects. CINCINNATI, December 26.—Twen- ty-four hours after the hold-up of the Farmers' State Bank at Miamitown, Ohio, two men were arrested at Brooksville, Ind.. near the Ohio bor- der, yesterday and, according to Sheriff Elmer Personeff of Franklin County, Ind., admitted participation in the robbery. riff Personefl said the men gave up $414 of $1,000 taken from the bank. They identified themselves as Allie D. Hadden, 22, and Sam Maus, 23, both of Cincinnati. DETROIT, Degember 26 (#).—Mrs. Mary Golden, 50, cook at Highland Park General Hospital, was seriously injured yesterday by a gas explosion in an oven she was lighting. Mrs. Golden was struck by the door of the oven and her skull was fractured.
