When the woman became uncon- scious, she said, she departed. Early that night, she stated, Maddux left home, returning two hours later. The next ‘morning, she sald, Maddux told her he had gone to the woods and slashed his wife’s. throat with the razor. Went Out With Maddux. In an earlier confession Miss Pish sald she accompanied Mrs. Maddux to the woods, and the woman committed suicide. Later she changed her story, saying Mrs. Maddux slashed her own throat once and then begged her to “finish it,” whereupon Miss Pish said she slashed her twice across tiie throat. Miss Pish said she and Maddux started “going out together” shortly after she arrived at the Maddux home to live. Mrs. Maddux, she said, ap- peared jealous at first, “but later on she didn’t care for me going with him.” Mrs. Maddux, 32 years old, was the mother of two children.
