PHILADELPHIA, October 15.—Sli- multaneous raids on three places in Philadelphia and two in Delaware County yesterday “broke the back,” Federal authorities said, of an alleged Ting of liquor smugglers and distrib- utors. Twenty-two persons, including one woman, were taken into custody. Warrants were out for 15 others, mak- ing 37 in all, accused as members or employes of the ring. Edward W. Wells, United States at- torney for this district, estimated the value of the liquor and equipment seized might total $1,000,000. Two Radio Sets Seized. Among the things selzed were two transmitting radio sets, which, authori- ties said, were used to keep in commu- nication with seven boats the alleged ring operated.
