v TA_12 EUROPECONSIERS NEW AUTO ROUTES Congress at Geneva Studies i International Highways for Continent. @pecial Dispatch to The Star. GENEVA, September 28.—On the in- witation of the International Labor Of- fice, as an encouragement of their avowed plan for furnishing labor for the unemplcyed on public works, the inter- pational committee for auto routes, or motor parkways (a private organiza- #lon) met at Geneva. The interest in spectal automobile Poadways fcr fast traffic, as well for private use as feeders to railways, both for freight and passengers, escapes no one. Obviously such roads, for their first operations at least, are planned #s toll roads. Italy Took Lead. Italy, with its auto trade, was the Birst to actually establish and operate such roads, with the encouragement of Bignor Mussolini and with the not in- appreciable aid of American road build- ing machinery. These Italian automo- bile rcads already in operation run frgm Milan to the Italian Lakes, Milan to Bergamo, Rome to Ostia and Naples to Sorrento, in all several hundred kilo- meters. International automobile routes al- ready beycnd the stage of mere proj- ects and considered as oi the first ig- poriance were discussed by French, ‘German, Swiss end Italian delegates as- sembled. Chief among these were: Dijon, France, to Basel, Switzerland; Geneva, Switzerland, to Lyon, France: Geneva to Mont Blanc—with a still more remote possibility of tunneling Mont Blanc to connect French and Italy and Geneva to the French and Italian Rivieras through the French Alps of Savoy and Dauphiny. Company Operates Road. A German company, the Hafabrau, has already under way a fast-traffic, exclusive automobile route from Frank- fort to Basel, intended as a link in an automobile trunk line from Hamburg to Milan, across Switzerland. A Swiss association of 160 members has been formed to secure, if possible, the aid of the federal government and of the various cantons and cities and towns along the way of this first inter- mational highway. The Swiss section will link up branches from Basel to Zurich and Zu- rich to Berne, the capital, with the di- rect north and south trunk line from Germany to Italy. _ Already a Swiss feeder route is under ‘onstruction from Berne to Thun, a dis- tance of 21 kilometers. It will have a width of 33 feet and will cost 5,000,000 francs. With the exception of what is k':c!:n as the mtz st‘rlxw from Geéneva lusanne, e most congested of all Swiss highways. C, MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 28 1931 - A 40% increase in sales : for 1931 shows: more people realize that Generals are worth the difference in price! Starting tomorrow at 8 a.m. (TO ACQUAINT MORE PEOPLE WITH GENERAL LEADERSHIP) as an Opening Sale feature, we announce the Lowest Prices in the History of General Cords! GENERAL now We're proud, very proud of this unusual record, particularly in view of the fact that competitive brands have been at a standstill or have gone behind in sales during the same period. Of course there is a reason for this sen- sational acceptance of General quality. Caught in the economy wave, tire users are demanding more tire-value for every dollar that is spent; greater mileage, more safety. General Tires have always been built to give more service than any other tires made. Tire-wise motorists of Washington are switching to Generals. This 40% increase in sales is the proof! TIRES within the reach of every ome Since 1915, when General Tires were first produced, mileage records, com- fort records and safety records have been broken time and time again by General. That added quality and that added care in manufacture have assert- ed themselves in every tire-world achievement in which General has taken a part. Today General reigns supreme. De- spite adverse conditions General sales throughout the country are keeping up. This is due to two reasons: (1) A GENERAL TIRE user seldom changes to another make, because seldom is he willing to do without the extra value he finds alone in General Tires. (2) General refuses to resort to mere cut-prices to attract new users, because General knows that prices cannot be sacrificed without ‘a corresponding sacrifice in value. General famous quality must be maintained. When you buy a General Tire you buy the best that can be produced . . . and NOW you can buy Generals at prices you are accustomed to pay for inferior makes . . . prices that bring them within the reach of every one.
