CHICAGO, Scptember 25.—Three men, who police say are ex-convicts, were held today as extortionists and bombers who have preyed upon phy- sicians and surgeons under threat of spreading rumors of irregular practices. ‘They were arrested last night in the office of an attorney, Joseph A. Kolk, just as a physiclan, Dr. Max Gecht, was handing over $2,500, police said. Names the three men are Morris Bogoslom#ki, once tried and convicted ‘0( murder, but freed when granted a {new trial; Joseph Lapez and Charles Fried. The arrests were made possible, police said, through aid given them by Dr. | Elmer D. Howe, . whose apartment- residence has been twice bombed in 10 days. ' Dr. Howe, linking the bombings with threatening telephone calls, ar- ranged through his attorney to meet the extortionists. A mecting in Kolk's office was planned, but the detectives, and not Dr. Howe kept the appoint- | ment. A list of physicians believed by police |to have been preyed on by the -trig was found in an office near that of the attorney.
