CLEVELAND, September 21.— More than a.dozen cities and towns in por- tions of Ohio, Indiana and Kentueky were severely shaken last night by sub- terranean tremors, the most pronounced |in this ssction since 1811 when the entire Objo River Valley was affected. Although attended by intense excite- ment among householders, the quake did comparatively little damage and caused no loss of life. It teached its greatest intensity at the village of Anna, in Western Ohio. The community of 500 persons was without a whole chimney today, and every house and building was dam- aged to some extent. Plastering Jarred Loose. Plastering in the Anna High School was shaken from the walls and the corner stones of the Lutheran Church were jarred loose. Damaged was esti- mated at $10,000. At Anderson, Ind., pictures were shaken off the walls. Starting at about 6 o'clock, Eastern standard time, and continuing over perfods of time as great as 30 seconds, the quake extended from Zanesville, Ohio, on the extreme east, to Rich- mond, Indianapolis, Connersville and Liberty, Ind., on the west. Distinet shocks were felt in Colum- bus, Lima, Cincinnati, Dayton, Cairo, West Minster, Sidney, Wapakoneta and Gomer, Ohio; at anapolis, Conners- ville, Anderson, Liberty and Richmond, Ind., and in some localities in Northern Kentucky. Sidney reported fallen chimneys, but largely of rattling dishes and windows. Hundreds Flee to Streets. Newspaper offices and police head- quarters suffered the most as thousands of excited - citizens telephoned in to learn what was happening. Hundreds ran into the streets in localities where shocks were most severe. Deep rumbling accompanied the tremors.
