Y, as di- Tector of religious education and young people’s activities to work with Dr. J. Hilman Hollister, the pastor. Mr. Bayliss attended Oberlin College, While there he was active in the Methodist ! Church and was & member of the Stu- dent Y. M. C. A. cabinet, being inter- ested in bringing about cordial rela- tions between the foreign and Negro students and the student body. Dur- ing the next two years he was a fellow- ship secretary at the Central Y.M.C.A. of Brooklyn, N. Y. His special field the | first year was the soclal and religious life of young men and the second year clubs and discussion groups organized around boy interests in the boys’ divi- sion. In 1928 Mr. Bayliss married Miss Ruth E. Millard, whose parents are mis- slonaries in Manchuria. He received an M. A. from Columbia University in 1930, having majored in religious edu- cation. The following year he held a research fellowship under the Schepp Foundation, which enabled him to con- tinue toward & Ph. D. The field of study was a plan for character educa- tion for boys. involving a pledge, award and a sponsor.
