Although the country’s citizens in- creased 16.1 per cent as a whole, rising from 105,710,620 to the 122 million fig- ure, there were only 2,190,791 infants | under 1 in 1930, against 2,357,255 in 1920, respectively, 1.8 and 2.1 per cent. Children under 5 formed 9.3 per cent, totaling 11,444,390, as compared with | 11,573,330 or 10.9 per cent. Numerically, | there were more between 10 and 14—the “under 5" class of 1920—as the 1930 census showed 12,004,877 against 10,- 641,137, but this age group formed 10.1 per cent in 1920, as against 9.8 per | cent now. 15 to 19 Show Gain. Only in the 15 to 19 years old division | | was there an increase sufficiently large to show a gain in percentage. This | group rose from 9430556, or 8.9 per cent, to 22,552,115, or 9.4 per cent dur- | ing the decade.
