ONFLYING TOOPEN L C. S. “Casey Jones” to Give Weekly Talks on Aviation Over WMAL Here. A new weekly radio series devoted to activities in the realm of aviation will{ be opened tonight on WMAL and other | Columbia stations. Called “Friendly Five Footnotes,” the programs will be conducted by C. S. (Casey) Jones, prominent aviation ex- ecutive, who was an Army Air Corps instructor during ‘be World War. Each week he will discuss current flving | events, and from fime to time will pre- sent outstan 'ng aviation personalities as_guest artists. ‘The dramatic sketch, at 8 o'clock, also will have an aviation background. The dramatization will be based on the story, “Co-Pilot,” by Liwewllyn Hughes. Balalaika Music Tonight. A celebrated group of Russian artists, accompanied by the Balalaika Orches- tra, under the direction of Peter Biljo, ‘will present a program of stirring gypsy dances and folk songs during the ‘Around the Samovar” broadcast. C. network, started her career in vaudeville. She made her debut some years ago with her brother in a variety hall in the sub- urbs of Chicago. Miss Stanley, however, attributes much of her success to the late Nora Bayes. It was Miss Bayes who really started her on a stage career. Miss Stanley was playing a three- week engagement in a Chicago night club, when Miss Bayes happened into the p 5 After hearing Miss Stanley sing, Miss Bayes sent for her to tell her she was destined for star- dom and to_ give her some advice, including the sug- gestion that she change her name (from Muggridge) to something more acceptable to the success on stage, dating from that interview, is equaled only by her outstanding record as a maker of phonograph discs. She made her first record for an obscure | Western company, then tottering on the edge of oblivion. The company, how- ever, sold 50,000 copies of that record | and put new life into its business. Re- | cently another recording company pre- sented her with a gold cup to mark her fitteenth-million record.
