NEW YORK, August 25.—Pirmer in the first half of the session, today's stock market weakened in the afterncon 4 | and left off jrregularly lower. The only real weakness was in the rallway list, where new lows were made by Canadian Pacific, Illinois Central, Southern Rail- way, Chicego & Northwestern and Great Northern preferred. Aside from the rails, the tobaccos were under pressure and the can stocks, Allied Ch!'uiul Cclumbia Carbon snd 2% | Western Union were other weak spots. On the other hand, a long list of indus- trials was changed only fractionally and the market gave way muc;nhuyhm" Opening buggooll - 3 and for the market showed a down a point, but rallied. Baitimore & Ohio gained a point and Union Pacific advanced. Among the July earnings statements coming to hand, those of Chicago, Great Western of New York, Ontario & Western stood out in sharp contrast.
