Gen. John Isaac Rodgers . retired, the second oldest sraduate of West Point, at Letterman General Hospital here Saturday night Gen. Rodgers, who was 92, was born | in Fayette County, Pa. in 1839. He entered the United States Military Academy at West Point on July 1, 1856, receiving a commission as second lieu- tenant of Artillery on May 6, 1861. One week later he was commissioned a first lieutenant and before the close of the, Civil War had received a captain's rank. In 1883 he was made a major of the 15t Artillery and in 1895 became a lieu- tenant colonel. _Just before the Span- ish-American War. in 1897. he was made a colonel, but was advanced to the rank of brigadier general during the war. In 1902 he was promoted to brigadier general in the Regular Arm: On October 15, 1903, after 40 years in the Army and service in two wars, he was retired at his own request.
