KANSAS CITY, July 23.—The heat- seared Southwestern and Rocky Moun- tain States were offered little chance for relief today from temperatures reaching above the century mark in | some sections. A forecast of somewhat unsettled conditions was the only hope held out for Kansas, which bore the brunt of the wave yesterday. Lindsborg re- ported an official reading of 111 degrees and Salina 1 degree less. In Wyoming and Montana the heat wave increased the danger from forest fires, which already have swept over an area estimated at 50,000 acres. Records of 50 years' standing tumbled in Montana, where Billings sweltered under a reading of 106 degrees and Bozeman 100. Observers in Oklahoma looked for- ward to more century-topping weather for that State, with no rain forecast. Temporatures only a few points below 100 were frequent in Texas. Utah residents prepared for their eleventh consecutive day of the wave. The mercury passed the century mark at Salt Lake City. Some relief was promised for Idaha.
