Nock Says; Sight of Well Kept Graves Was Stimulant. Visits to the graves of their sons in France have becnefited America’s gold | star mothers, “‘phycically and mentally.” Such was the opinion voiced today n | by Mrs. Nicholas N. Nock of 1129 New Hampshire avenue, national gold star . | chairman of the American War Mothers, who recently returned from a all.lgrlxn- age abroad, with 138 other mothers of World War victims. “You can't imagine,” Mrs. Nock said, “how the mothers were stimulated by visiting the well kept graves of their | sons. One mother was terribly sad going over, but wanted to sing and of | dance coming back.” Impressed by Courtesies. Mrs. Nock wes impressed with the | courtesies shown the mothers by War Department officials. “All our expenses were paid,” she explained. “We stayed in the best hotels and received kind attention everywhere we went. Army off 'ers and nurses providedefor all our neads. Even our tips were paid. We were shown every consideration from the time we left New York May 13 aboard the S. 8. America until we re- turned this menth cn the 8. S. Presi- dept Harding.” Mrs. Nock’s party spent four days in Paris before visiting the battlefields end cemeteries. While -there Mrs. Louella A. Dietz of Saginaw, Mich., 77, the oldest member of the group, laid a wreath on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier, in ceremonies at the Arc de Triomphe. Tour of Battlefields. The mothers then went on a tour of the battlefields by bus. They I visited the Meuse-Argonne Ameri Cemetery at Romagne, where the graves of most of their sons were located. They were given cards containing the location of the resting places of their sons and were permitted to kneel at the graves as long as they wished. Mrs. Nock visited the grave of her son Corpl. Charles Stratton Weaver. The delegation heard Gen. John J. Pershing deliver an address on Mems- rial day et Romagne. Another Washington woman included in the party was Bahia C.
