The attack was launched by William H. Richardson, who stated that the con- ditions were the most ridiculous and absolutely asinine in the country. “If they hit us one more crack,” he said, “we might as well throw the keys to our cars into the nearest police sta- tion and move to another city. I would like to move the permanent retirement of some of those responsible for condi- tions of this sort.” Strest Dangers Cited. A. J. Driscoll, president, called the situation “deplorable.” The conditions on Tenth street were described as “ter- rible” by Mrs. Mary C. Willlams. Stressing dangerous conditions exist- ¢ ing on Thirteenth street, both to pe- destrians and drivers, the association adopted a resolution requesting that the District Commissioners widen Thir- teenth and Eleventh streets from Mas- sachusetts to Rhode Island avenues. Congestion of traffic is created on Eleventh street, it was stated, because of the space taken up by street car tracks. Ancther resolution requested new sidewalks in Franklin Park. The Dis- trict Commissioners were asked that an increase in guards at the District jail be hired so that present guards may have a six-day week. Gas Refunds Asked. A refund by the Washington Gas Light Co. to citizens who can clearly demonstrate they have been over- charged, due to increas-d gas pressure, was asked in a resolution adopted. J. C. McNerney intreduced it. Ind-rsement was given a petition for rezoning N street between 12th and 13th streets from a residential section to a first commercial zone.
