A pair of white rats procured by the Bureau of Home Economics six years ago produced offspring which thrived 50 on nutrition experiments that their number is now 9.300. Among other things, the rats have established that honey is a good food, but has to be supplemented by vita- mins; bananas are as near complete as anything that can be found: water- melon is rich in vitamins A, B, C, G, nng that wheat germs, rice polishings and cottonseed flour are valuable for vitamin content. Dr. Hazell E. Munsell, nutritionist, has entered each rat in her neatly kept birthday book as it reached the age of 2 weeks. To each she gave an experi- mentation number on its weaning, at the age of 4 weeks. Only 10 per cent of their female de- scendants were permitted to propagate, vet. several hundred of them have been | distributed to various university labora- tories to carry on the sclentific tradi- tion of the family. ‘The pink-eyed mothers present the worthy cause of finding out what's what about vitamins A, B, C and G with a new family every seven weeks. On huge charts Dr. Munsell maps the course of each nutritive life span— whether the rat thrives on cod liver ofl, rich in vitamin content, or lan- guishes into pellagra for lack of leafy veflmblfl, HENRY ORTH, JR., BURIED | IN GLENWOOD CEMETERY ' Funeral rites for Henry Orth, jr., 61 years old, patent attorney, who died at his home, at 1510 Hamilton street, Tuesday night after a long illness, were held at his home this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.
