GAIN MAINTAINED BY KING GEORGE Slow Return to Normal Health Is Faced by British Monarch. By the Associated Press. WINDSOR, England, April 9.— Progress noted yesterday in the condi- tion of King George, who is suffering from subacute bronchitis, is being maintained, it was stated officially at Windsor Castle this morning. The assurances from the castle that | his majesty is progressing nicely have been somewhat qualified from the be- | ginning, however, by insistence by those about him that his progress m be necessarily slow and that a_consid- erable time must elapse before his nor- mal health is restored. Such warnings are unpleasantly | reminiscent of similar admonitions | given the public at the time of his serious illness in 1928 and 1929 and have tended to keep alive public anx- iety in his behalf. It is known that| he is not too strong after the formen illness and that a new bronchial at- | tack will put his physique o a great | strain, The King did not attend the family dinner at the castle yesterday evening, although the Princess Mary and her husband, Earl of Harewood, newly ar- rived at the castle, were present. His majesty went to bed comparatively early, a fact to which castle attaches gave no sinister significance, regarding it principally as & precaution against overfatigue. | The statement of his majesty’s condi- tion was issued after his_physicians, lord Dawson of Penn, Sir William Rees and Dr. Henry Martyn, had seen him. The King signed a number of state documents today in his room and transacted other official business. Queen Mary left the castle during the morning for an_ automoblile ride into London, where she visited a pic- ture dealer’s establishment and made several purchases. In the period of the degeneracy of the Roman people dwarfs came into prominence. Not satisfied with the rare | instances of dwarfs which Nature pre- | sented, men made it a trade to produce dwarfs by confining individuals of diminutive size in boxes and by the use | of bandages.
