WORLD DEPRESSI0 STUDY ANNOONCED International C. of C. Will Seek Remedy at May Meeting Here. ‘The International Chamber of Com- merce intends to seek a remedy for the world-wide business depression at its meeting next May in Washington. Silas H. Strawn of Chicago, chair- ! man of the American Committee of the International Chamber, said today in a statement that representatives of 46 nations will attend the meeting, and declared the conference would “endeavor to investigate carefully the distinction between cause and effect in the present situation, with a view to establishing to what extent remedies can be sought and the first steps of recovery hastened by co-ordinating sectional endeavor.” “From this, as from previous economic depressions,” he said, “there will be eventual and, we hope, speedy recovery. ‘When that time will come, no one seems able to forecast. Certain it is that recovery can only be brought by co-operative individual effort and not | by governmental action.” Mr. Strawn added that, “Perhaps the most ominous cloud that overhangs the whole economic world is the dumping on world markets of large quantities of grain, raw materials, and semi- finished products by Soviet Russia at prices less than the normal costs of production. “That . is a factor in the situation,” he said, “the duration and extent of which canno’ be measured.” Delegates from Europe, Latin-America, the Par East and the United States will present a comprehensive trade picture and these reports, he said, will form the basis for a thorough and frank discussion. An added feature of the conference will be consideration of re- suks of an inquiry by a special com- mittee into economic relations between the United States and Europe. Dr. Alberto Pirelli of Italy is chairman of three plenary sessions which will be d to thé report. ITALIAN ACES GUESTS OF BRAZIL AT BAHIA Gen.
