ELONONIES LSTED INGRANTS EPORT Dffice of Buildings and Parks Saved $20,000 in Year, President Advised. Economies upward of $20,000 were sccomplished by the Office of Public Buildings and Public Parks during the fizcal year ending last June, Lieut. Col. U. S. Grant, 3d, its director, advised President Hoover yesterday, in his an- nual report. Col. Grant advised the Chief Execu- tive that a high-grade paint was pro- duced in the use of the paint grinding mill of the office, resulting in an actual saving of $1,690.80. The operation of the awning shop also resulted in economies, Col. Grant sald, 738 awnings being made at a cost of $4,269.48 and 2,146 were re-covered st a cost of $8,326.83. The colonel pointed out that if this work had been done by private contract the cost would have been increased approximately 35 per cent. In addition, he added, 4,396 mops were manufactured at a cost of $1,693.82, which if done by private con- tract would have meant a cost incrase of about 15 per cent. “By experience,” Col. Grant asserted, “it has been found that the use of theft-proof electric lamps in places ‘where the ordinary type of lamp could be easily stolen has resulted in a con- siderable saving, and, consequently, their use has been continued. “As a result of the arrangement “HE TVENING STAR. The building at 1300 Esstreet is the greatest offender, four fires having des stroyed 10 awnings during the flscal yoar ending June 30 last. He faced Magistrate Leo Rothenberg Saturday on a drunkenness charge, | “made & face” so the court would not know him next time, and was freed.
