NEW YORK, November 15 (N.AN.A)). ~—Eastern studios are robbing the colony in Hollywood of some of their bright lights. ‘Maurice Chevalier will make all his pictures in New York in future, at Jeast, for the coming year. This takes & big personality out of the colony—one o:. the most popular of the famous stars. ‘The little flivver in which the French idol ran about will be seen no more. ‘The conservatism of Chevalier, who en- tertained little, and then in a most dig- nified and unostentatious manner, was a continuous source of surprise. to a colony which lives de luxe every day. Nancy OCarroll is embarking upon an- + other picture at Paramount’s Eastern studio. This red-haired beauty was a decorative bit in the daily color scheme of the village out there. She was a pop- ular member of the tennis faction, a horsewoman, and at all times a delicate bit of human porcelain to delight the . eye. Her Long Island made pictures have a quality we do not get in our work out there. I saw “Laughter” the other day. It has subtlety and charm, and the cast, ‘which includes Glenn Anders and Frank called “Sex in Business,” and Dorothy Arzner, who has been brought out of the West Coast studio, will direct it. Philip Holmes, one of the most val- ued of the leading men in the younger group, is here to make a new picture with Nancy Carroll. “Stolen Heaven” is the name of that dne. And Clive Brooks, who has long been considered a fixture in the Hollywood to head. They're valling it “Her Past.” If producers find the advisability of making pictures on this coast increas- ing, they'll have to build larger plants, as much money will be lost by the waits occasioned under the present regime. New York audierices are crying loudly for a reshowing of the cast list at the end of picture. Because of the ex- cellent work of many people new to pic- tures, they leave the theater wondering just what the name of the new idol is. A reshowing of the cast list would only take a few seconds’ time, and would be valuable in building up in- terest in newcomers to the screen. One hears mutterings about it, and we do |learn something from audiences now | o5 Mflnkwmrmlwtnz A Paramount executive—this to be told with much shushing- led to me that better pictures are made here because every one is not movie-minded; because people do not lead typical movie lives, and for this reason %I the performance h income is to be derived from acting in pictures. Claudette Colbert will begin a picture, on this coast any day now. It's to be 10. Grate. 14. 'Goddess of Peace. 15. Imprint deeply. 16. Assam silkworm. 17. Knightly combats. 4 18. Priestly mantle. 9. The present title is “Gentle- man’s Fate,” and o‘l:lhe’r‘! is to play the hard work combined mean anything, some of us may yet have the chance to quote that old motto dealing with dark clouds and silver linings.
