BEANT SPANSH GOUP PLOTFOILED Goes Awry—Sensational ~Details Aré Revealed. N By the Associated Press. LONDON, ‘October :21.—A European resident in Portugal yesterday brought to London details of a sensational but abortive plot to overthrow the Portu- guese dictatorship and the Spanish monarchy in a giant all-Iberian coup early in Octobe ‘The informant, who has had excep- tional opportunity to observe the facts, said that, although the Portuguese gov- ernment took extreme measures to counter the plot and Lisbon became an hing of the situation ar in the press or to be telegraphed abroad. It was stated that, while the plot was not carried out as planned, Portugal is seething politically, and sooner or later the nation will be confronted with se- rious developments. ‘The informant says also that the dictatorship of Presi- dent General Carmona at the moment appears to be In & very difficult position. Coup Fails to Materialize. The plot did not materialize, it is stated, because of a quarrel among the lotters themselves as to whether Lis- n was to be turned over for three days to mob rule, under which heads of the dictatorship would be deall with summarily. Less radical plotters de- clined to agree to this, and the coup did not materialize. 2 ‘The plot was expected t0 be carried out about October 6 and to be made in conjunction with a Republican upris- ing in Spain. Republican agitation in varieus Spanish citles did actually reach a high point about that time, but did not attain the propol to overthrow the monarchy. The government is said to possess evi- dence a section of the army made s pact with the so-called old parties of Republicans, Democrats, Socialists and Communists, who offered to put & force of 5,000 armed citizens in the fleld to co-operate with that part of the regular army which was to revolt. RAWLINGS, Wyo., October 21— A_sagebrush golf tournament— wHich s just what it sounds like--was held Sunday, and Tester Gopp of Parco won the first annual marathon with a low score of 96 in a 7-mile hit-and- walk contest from Parco Rawlins. The winner took 7 hours and 45 minutes to complete play. He drove off from the first tee of the Parco Club and holed out in a pygmy course here. Three women started, but only one, Mrs. W. A.
