- Considine at BOB DUE FORNO. | 0. NET RANKING Defeat of Mitchell in Ward- man Event Practically Clinches the Honor. OB CONSIDINE' will be the No. 1 ranking men’s tennis player of the District for 1930. That the Ranking Committee will name the rangy player for the honor post ap- peared certain today following Considine’s victory in five stirring sets yesterday over Dooly Mitchell, his old foe, in the final of the Wardman Park invitation tennis tournament, the last major tour- ney of note of the net campaign here. The scores were 4—6, 6—3, 2—6, 6—4, 6—4. The victory gave Considine the cup offered by Sec- retary of State Stimson. Mitchell held this trophy as the result of his win in 1929 With the Wardman win tucked away, Considine holds three victories in four starts for the season over Mitchell. In addition to yesterdays win, he con- quered th> popular Georgetown boy in the City of Washington and the Dis- trict champlonships, while Mitchell triumphed over him in a semi-final of the national public parks tournament. After showing sirongly until well along in the scason, Considine faltered somewhat, but since his visit to Forest Hills, where he took part in the na- tional championships, he has been play- ing at least as well if not better than earlier in the campaign. He is using a new forehand grip, and his game ap- ars improved, particularly his volley- g, s the result of pointers picked up at Forest Hills. Wins With Tom Mangin. Paired with Tom I7angin, former District champion, Considine also won the Wardman doubles title yesterday, overcoming Mitchell and Bill Buchanan, 6—2, 6—4. EW YORK, September 22.—Jack Sharkey, Boston sailor man, : hopes to take apart Victorio Campolo Thursday night and see what makes him tick. “Campy” Is the one big question mark among the heavyweights.| The bouts he has fought so far in this country have failed to afford the experts with a satis- | factory indication as to his prowess, but his match with Sharkey at the Yankee Stadium shoild decide his status once and for all. With nothing in particular at stake, Sharkey may be depended upon to fight one of his good battles, and if he does Campolo may go the way of Wills, De- laney and Lougnran, all of whom found Shatkey entirely too tough and ready. Sharkey will give away gobs of weight, height and reach to the South Amcri- ! can, but nevertheless appears to be a 200d 2-to-1 shot to win. | Y B ANl Portney and Pisano in Fine Trim | for Feature—De Angelo | Meets Trambera.
