Announcing the gift, Robert V. Fleming, president of the Riggs Na- tional Bank and ireasurer of the Chest, said the system represents months of study and experimentation by James A. Councilor and Gordon Buchanan. A feature of the system is an ar- rangement by which acknowledgements of pledges to the Chest and the whole year’s set of statements to contributors who subscribed for payment on the in- stallment plan are made out at one time, instead of requiring separate ad- dressing. She told police: “He came to the apartment, waving # gun. He shouted to Joe, ‘You took her from me, now you're going to get yours” Then he shot. He came to- ward me, pointing the smoking revolver. 1 said, ‘Why didn’t you shoot me in- stead?’ He looked at me a minute, then ran out of the room. “I ran over and knelt beside Joe on the floor. ‘Kiss me before I die’ he sald. I kissed him and he closed his eyes.” Mrs. Marshall, a divorcee, said she and Carney were to have been married next Saturday. Brandon, learning this, came to the apartment late Sunday and congratulated them. He assured them both that he was a “good loser” and went away. It was several hours later that he returned with the pistol, Mrs. Marshall said.
