DEATH OF WOMAN, 72, LAID TO DESPONDENCY Mrs. Amelia Berger Found in Kitchen of Home With Gas Jets Open. Despondency over her husband's death, coupled with her own prolonged 1l health. Jed Mrs. Amelia Berger, 72 years old. to end her life yesterday afternoon in the Naples apartments, at 713 Nineteenth street, where she lived Wwith her son and daughter-in-law. Her body was found in a kitchen chair by the colored janitor, W. S. Lucas, after a tenant in the building reported smelling gas escaping from the Berger apartment. Two jets of the stove were open, while cloths were found stuffed in the cracks of windows and doors. Fire Rescue Squad No. 1 and the Emergency Hospital ambulance were summoned, but the staff physician in charge of the ambulance pronounced the woman dead. Coroner J. Ramsay Nevitt issued a certificate of suicide. The woman’s son, Martin L. Berger, said that Berger had been despondent for several months On several occasions since the death of her husband, Oscar L. Berger, the widow has threatened to end her life &nd join her husband, the son declared. Mr. Berger died on George Washing- ton's birthday at his Clarendon, Va, home.
