Sales of ordinary life insurance in May in Washington were 14 per ccnt ahead of the same month a year ago, according to reports received today from Hartford. Conn. The District of Colum- bia stands fourth in a tabulation which includes all the States in the Union. During May, Delaware reported a gain of 61 per cent, lowa 26 per cent and Nebraska 18 per cent, these being the only sections to pass Washington. Next to this city came Minnesota with a 13 per_cent advance, followed by Florida with 9 per cent and West Virginia with 8 per cent advances. Important issues such as United States Steel and American Can went to new low prices for the year and throughout the list declines were re- corded, some of them of large pro- portions.
