Dr. James Shera Montgomery, pastor of the church, now located at John Marshall place and C street, will preach tomorrow morning on “Does Familiarity Breed Contempt?” In the evening he will speak on “The Sad- ness of Color-Blindness.” ‘The old church has been purchased for $190.000 by the District govern- ment, in connection with the erec- tion of a municipal center. The con- gregation must vacate it by January 1931. It is the National Church of Methodism. The site was purchased March 30, 1852. The cornerstone was laid October 23, 1854, the ceremonies being conducted by Bishop Matthew Simpson and officers of Benjamin B. French Masonic Lodge. The church was dedicated February 28, 1869, and organized March 28, 1869, with Dr. John P. Newman as pastor. The chimes installed in the church tower, which were dedicated Novem- ber 30, 1871, are to be installed at the new church. There are a number of memorial tablets on the walls of the auditorium, together with a large bronze tablet in honor of the 44 men of ‘he church who served in the World War, with other historical pieces, which will be removed to the new church.
