King, sr, 89 years old, veteran retired builder and contractor of this city and a native Washingtonian, died at his home, 1707 § street, today. He had been failing for some time and had been Il since January. Mr. King was & member of an old Washington family and had long bcen widely known here. Engaged in the building and .on- tracting business here for many years until he retired about 20 years ago, Mr. King had built many of the present landmarks of the National Capital and numerous private residences. Mr. King's bullding operations in- cluded the building of. public works for the District under the old form of government here when the late Alex- ander R. Shepherd was governor. He had been associated with the Ilatter ment. Mr. King, who would have been 90 years old next October, had the dis- tinction of being one of the oldest | members of the Masonic fraternity in the District. He was a member of B. B. French Lodge, F. A. A. M.; Mount Vernon Chapter, Royal Arch Masons; ‘Temple of the Mystic Shrine. In addition he was a member of the Association of Oldest Inhabitants of the District of Columbia and a member of Burnside Post, Grand Army of the Republic He served in the District W.
