Dumont, 37, a Government engineer, was found shot to death and his wife, 33, was found dying by police who were summoned to_the couple’s home early yesterday by Rev. A. L. Powell, Meth- odist minister. ‘The pastor phoned officers to tell them he had just received a phone call from a woman whose voice he recog- | nized as that of Mrs. Dumont. She! said, he reported, that she had just killed her husband and was about to shoot herself, Police: arrived to find Dumont shot once through the head and his wife shot twice through the head. She died shortly afterward. Authorities said it was evidently murder and suicide, but were puzzled by the fact that Mrs. Dumont had been shot once through the back of the head. A vase was broken against the wall, indicating a struggle, they said. A note was found scrawled on an envelope, supposedly by Mrs. Dumont, saying: “He tried to poison me. That's why these terrible headaches.” Mrs, Dumont had been in ill heaith. ‘The couple’s 8-year-old son was drowned three years ago in the Ohio River while they were living at Uniontown, Ky. CHICAGO, May 12.—The Chamber of Commerce of the United States and exchanges which have attacked the agricultural marketing act were as- sailed yesterday by Sam H. Thompson, ident of the American Farm: Bureau eration, in a letter calling upon all members to fight what he termed “our econmic enemies.” Terming the various steps against the operation of the act “a serious challenge to &rgflniud agriculture,” Thompson wrote: “Already great speculative groups that have, year by year, profited at the ex- nse of agriculture through fluctua- ons in the price of produce of the farm see the handwriting on the wall. They have openly and definitely de-| clared war on this policy.
