NATCHEZ, Miss, May 12.—Two DOTtant centers. trainmen were killed yesterday in the | derailment of the Planter, Southbound Yazoo & Mississippi Valley Railroad train, caused, rallroad detectives said, by wvandals. ‘The men killed were B. W. Maddox ! of New Orleans, engineer, and C. W. Baker of near Vicksburg, Miss. The train left the ralls at a crossing at Deans Spur, two miles south of Harri- son, Miss, and the engine, tender and three cars overturned. Reports said that only one passenger was injured, Rudolph Vorbusch of New Orleans, and his injuries were not con- sidered serious. Rallroad detectives declared the wrecking of the train, one of nearly a half dozen trains that have met with mishap in Mississippl in recent weeks, was due to malicious circumstances. ‘The railroad officials here said that heavy timbers had been spiked down on the track and the switch at the | point had been jammed. They were | seeking to connect the wrecking of sev- | eral trains in one plot with its pur- | es still a mystery. It was announced | ere today the railroad had offered a reward of $10,000 for the arrest and conviction of the train wrecker. OLD-TIME TEMPLE IS WELL PRESERVED | University of Pennsylvania Noti- fied of Remarkable Discovery by Researchers in Mesopotamia. By the Associated Press. PHILADELPHIA, May 12.—The Uni- versity of Pennsylvania yesterday an- nounced a report from the archelogical expedition in Mesopotamia of the uni- versity museum and the British Museum, stating that one of the best preserved temples ever found there has been un- covered in what appeared to be an in- significant mound. ‘The report, by C. Leonard Woolley, director of the expedition, states that the temple was bullt by Nebuchadnezzar about 600 B. C., and was added to and restored by Nabonidus 50 years later. It was found in the northern harbor at Ur and was concealed by a mound ex- cavation which was undertaken for topographical reasons. “The walls of the temple stand 20 feet high and the whitewash on them remains in good condition,” Woolley stated. “In all Iraq there is no other temple so well preserved. Once inside one obtains an astonishing effect of completeness. It is the only place in Iraq where one can stand in a Baby- lonian temple and forget for a moment that it is a ruin.” ‘The excavation of this temple marked the final activities of the expedition's eighth season at Ur of the Chaldees. e antiquities found have been divided between the Iraq government and the expedition. Be- tween El Paso and Tulsa he encoun- tered a storm which nearly forced him down outside of Tulsa, but, seeing an- other plane turn over in landing, made him decide to keep on to the airport. The record which he now holds was formerly held by Dick James, who was his classmate at the Flushing High YOUNG SAILOR KILLED 10-Year-Old Tug Captain Meets Death in Blast. SEATTLE, May 12 (#).—Harold Meagher, 19-year-old captain of the tugboat Bermuda, was killed in Seattle Harbor yesterday when the oil tanks of the craft exploded while he was battling flames in the hold. His body was blown clear of the ‘wreckage and was later recovered by a harbor patrol boat crew.
