Dr. Samuel Jud.son Porter, the pastor, will preach on “If the Vision Tarry.” In the eve- ning his subject will . be “Healing Streams.” The first stated meeting of Baptists in Washington was when Rev. Mr. Richards of the Baptist Church in Baltimore preached in July, 1801, in the Treasury office. The first church ‘was organized as 8 result of that meet- ing on March 7, 1802, in a private| house. Almost as soon as the building ‘was repaired it was taken over by the Government as o hospital for soldiers, &s the Civil War was then in progress. L The congregation of the Luther Place Memorial Church, at Thomas Circle, has extended & unanimous call to Dr. Call C. Rassmussen of Harrisburg, Pa, to become its pastor. Dr. Rassmussen is at present pastor of the Lutheran Church of the Mes- siah in Harrisburg. He also is presi- dent of the East Pennsylvania Synod of that denomination. studied at Hartwick Seminary, which he was graduated in 1009 then entered Gettysburg Colles which he was graduated in 1912, Th!l‘!- after he entered the Lutheran Theo- logical Seminary at Gettysburg, !rom which he was graduated in 1915, Succeeded Dr. Hanson. During the years that have followed Dr. Rassmussen has held pastorates in Newville, Juniata, Greensburg and Har- risburg, having been called to the torate of the Church of the Messiah in the latter place to succeed Dr. H. W. A. Hanson upon the latter’s election to the presidency of Gettysburg College. During the intervening years Dr. Rasmussen has studied from time to time at Columbia University, majoring in religious education. In 1923 he was awarded the master of arts degree by Columbia and also has the degree of doctor of divinity bestowed upon him by Gettysburg College. He has com- pleted the three and a half years' work at Columbia leading to the earned Ph.D. degree and is now engaged in his dissertation as the final requirement for his doctorate.
