Insures Personal Loans. A large insurance company now offers a contract prepared for the purpose of making bank funds more accessible to persons in need of loans, at the same time protecting the banks from ioss in case of the death of borrowers. The new contract, which is called creditors’ group insurance, is being of- fered to regularly incorporated banks that make, or intend to make, personal loans to individuals on notes unsecured by collateral, but carrying one or more personal indorsements. This insurance can be obtained only on individuals making personal loans which are to be repaid in regular in- stallments. It is not to be issued on commercial loans. NEW YORK, January 14.—Chiman- ram Motils], wealthy bazaar owner of is holding his sides as he laughs at how he has virtually cornered the silver motal market of India and sent a lot of shorts scurrying to cover. Chimanram, who is 80 and very nimble of wit despite his age and weight, knew that the present Indian government, despite its intention of country on a gold currency anxious to sell silver. He also knew that the Indian settlement oceurs January 24, or too near for rts to arrange shipments of silver to India from other parts of the world. Dealers in silver here also said Chi- manram’s prospects of huge profits were aided by some additional buying of sil- ver by China and purchases of 1,000,000 ounces of the white metal by the United States Government Mint. This country usually is not an important silver market factor, for in 1928 and 1927, respectively, it bought only 4,- 100,000 and 6,500,000 ounces, as against total world production in 1928 alone of 248,400,000 ounces, not inclu addi- tional supplies from the sale of demon- tized silver. . Chimanram’s operations, which in- volved the immediate delivery of 2,- 000,000 ounces and future deliveries ranging between 4,000,000 and 5,000,000 1% |ounces, is the most spectacular feat he ever engineered and may prove to be the most profitable.
