By the Associated Press. CHICAGO, January 3.—Eleven hours on horseback on mountain trails may be mental cruelty, but it is not cmeny in the eyes of the law, Judge Joseph Sabath ruled yesterday. Mrs. Ella Blohm Sage, 26, in asking a divorce, had told the court that her husband's promise of a romantic trip through South America had turned out to be a horseback trip over mountains, across the Perw desert, and once across a narrow plank bridge swinging 1,500 feet above a stream. Add the fact that it was her first excursion aboard a horse and top it with Mrs. Sage's com- plaint that Willlam C. Sage abandoned helll; in the wilderness with an Indian tribe. A tremendous increase in the produc- tion of corn sugar, which can be used in making bootleg liquor, is causing the thlbltlun Bureau more concern than the diversion of industrial alcohol, which has been cited as one of the major problems facing the enforcement officers. Prohibition Commissioner Doran said yesterday that his agents were reporting the seizure of an increasing number of corn sugar distilleries and a decreasing number of plants for converting indus- trial alcohol. He cited figures mrnished by the Department of Commerce to show that production of corn sugar had increased from 152,000,000 pounds in 1921 to 968,000,000 poundl in the 1928 fiscal year. Commissioner Doran in the past has said that the plan adopted two years 2go of limiting the manufacture of in- dustrial alcohol to the amount required by the country in its industries had caused the diversion to bootleg chan- nels to drop from a major to a minor question in the enforcement of the pro- hibition law.
