NEW YORK, (N.A.N.A) —Because of her anti-prohibition activities, Mrs. Charles H, Sabin is in about as con- spicuous a position, nationally, as a woman out of office can be. To a vast number of church people through- out the country it is still somewhat shocking to find a woman so fercely antagonistic to a “noble experiment,” as the president has called it and which women have been largely credited with, or blamed for, by the Nation, “We have exchanged government by the people for government by the Methodist Episcopal Board of Morals,” cries Mrs. Sabin, and that utterance is a scandalous one, in the minds of many. Yet Mrs. Sabin, enemy of the Anti- Saloon League and the W. C. T. U., has also been president of the Women's National Republican Club, a delegate to 2 Republican national convention, and on the Republican national committee, and in certain sections of society here she is regarded with respect that amounts to awe. He put in a bath room, too, one which was heated from a stor: boiler above the kitchen range, so on baking days there was plenty of hot water and on washing days none at all. Then he erected a high iron fence as a symbol of seclusion and an iron deer for ele- gance; built a stable to house his wife's carriage—not that he cared whether she walked or rode, but a carriage was a symbol also—and the old side-bar buggy in which he went at 7 o'clock, rain or shine, to his business, and for the Jersey cow which pastured in the back lot.
