BISHOP KINSOLVING. RETIRED, PASSES Episcopal Missions Leader in Southern Brazil Was Virginian. By the Associated Press. FOREST HILLS, N. Y., December 19. —Right Rev. Lucien Lee Kinsolving, co- founder and bishop of the Protestant Episcopal Missionary See of Southern Brazil, died of heart disease at Forest Hill Inn yesterda: He was 67 years old. Bishop Kinsolving, a cousin of Gen, Robert E. Lee, commander of the Confederate Army during the Civil War and direct descendant of Richard Henry Lee and Thomas Ludwell Lee, once was dean of convocation, member of the standing committee and missionary of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the State of Rio Grande. With Rev. James Morris, associate rector of the Epiphany Church, Wash- ington, D. C., he founded the Mis- sionary See of Southern Brazil in 1889 and was elected Missionary Bishop for the Brazillan Episcopal Church in 1890. He was conse- crated a year later and elected mis- sionary bishop of Southern Brazil in 1907. He made his headquarters at Rio Grande do Sul. He was forced to become inactive by ill health three years ago and returned to the United States. M. Surviving are his widow, the former Alice Brown of Mount Holly, N. J., whom he married in 1892; two sons, Rev. Arthur B. Kinsolving, 2d, chap- ilain of the United States Military | Academy, ~ West Point, N. Y., and Charles M. Kinsolving, New Yeork banker; a daughter, Miss Lucie Lee Kin- solving, New York, and two brothers, the Rev. Arthur B. Kinsolving, rector of St. Paul's Church, Baltimore, Md., and the Rev. Wythe Lee Kinsolving of Richmond, Va. Another brother was Bishop George Herbert Kinsolving of Texas, who died in Austin two years ago. Funeral services will be held today at Forest Hills and burial will be to- morrow in the cemetery of the Virginia Theological Seminary, at Alexandria. BISHOP WELL KNOWN HERE. When he first went to Brazil to carry on mis- sionary work he met with considerable opposition and many interesting ac- counts have been given of his experi- ences there. On one occasion, while he was con- ducting services on the second floor of a building, & note was sent him stating he was going to be mobbed after the services, Turning to Rev. Dr. James Morris, now associate rector of the Church of the Epiphany, Bishop Kin- solving_asked: “What would St. Paul do?” Dr. Morris replied: “I think he would walk straight down the steps. This Bishop Kinsolving and Dr. Morris did in full view of the mob, which made no move to harm them. DIES IN RESCUE EFFORT. Seaman’s Head Strikes Pier as He Lunges to Save Friend. BOSTON, December 19 (/).—John Hopp, 25, of Milwaukee, Wis., baker, second class, aboard the mine layer Quall, was killed at the Charlestown Navy Yard last night attempting to save a pal from falling off & gangplank. Preceded by George Springoski, 25, of Chicago, water tender of the Quail, Hopp was returning to his ship, which was tied up at the navy yard, after shore leave. As Springoski tripped and fell to the deck of the Quail, Hopp junged to save him and dropped into the water. As he fell head struck the pier and he was de#d when pulled out.
