EMPLOYMENT SEEN AS 0. K. IN CAPITAL Labor Department Holds no Difficulty Offered in . Situation Here. With industrial establishments in Washington reporting satisfactory schedules and practically no change in volume of employment, the employment situation in Washington was viewed today by the Labor Department as offer- ing no difficulty. A surplus of clerical help apparent last month was said to be largely due to many college students seeking part- time employment as office workers. Ther: was & good demand for compe- tent domestic help, with no shortage reported, although completion of sev- eral major street construction projects released a number of men. In the building trades, however, a sur- plus of skilled and unskilled building laborers was apparent at the close of November, even though there was a large volume of building under way in ¢ the Capital. Department stores _in- creased their forces in anticipation of the holiday trade. Seasonal curtailment of building in Baltimore has increased the surplus of labor, although all plants were in operation at the close of last month, with their usual forces employed in most instances. Elsewhere in nearby Mary- land the labor situation was fairly well balanced.
