CHURCH T0 LAY STONE WEDNESDAY Disciples of Christ Ceremony to Be Attended by Many Leaders. ‘The corner stone of the National City Christian Church being erccted by the Disciples of Christ of America on Massachusetts avenue at Thomas Circle | will be Jaid with appropriate ceremonies | Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock. | Many leaders of the church will attend. R. A. Long of Kansas City, chairman of the building committee and president of the International Convention of Di: ciples of Christ, will be in charge of the program and the placing of the stone. This church, the gift of the Disciples of Christ throughout the country, will be occupied by the congregation of the Vermont Avenue Christian Church, of which Dr. Earle Wilfley is minister. Dr. Wilfiey will be one of the speakers at | the corner stone exercises. | Trumpeters, at 10 o'clock, will sound the call to worship, which will be fol- | lowed by the formal corner stone pro- gram. Speakers will include Mr. Long, Dr. George A. Miller of Omaha, Nebr., formerly pastor of the Ninth Street | Church of this city; C. N. Williams of the Disciples Union of Washington, Senator Arthur Capper of Kansas, chairman of the Senate District com- mittee, and W. Palmer Clarkson. Prayer and Benediction. Dr. B. A. Abbott, editor of the Chris- tian Evangelist, St. Louis, Mo., will of- fer a prayer and the benediction will be given by Dr. B. H. Melton. minister of | the Ninth Street Christian Church. | Oreon E. Scott will be in charge of the insertion of articles and documents in the stone. The National City Christian Church | F movement was inaugurated 10 years ago | but did not take definite form until the Autumn of 1926 when the International Cdnvention of Disciples of Christ meet- ing in Memphis, Tenn., recommended the definite raising of funds from the congregation at large for the building of a representative church in the Capital City. Nearly $1.500,000 has been col- lected. Dr. H. H. Harmon of Indian- apols, Ind., has had charge of the as- sembling of funds. The building to be erected on Thomas Circle will be one of the most beauti- ful ‘and commanding structures in Washington. The building group which when completed will consist of the church house, a small prayer chapel and a fully equipped modern educational building, will be of American classic de- sign and will conform to the general architectural style which has been adopted for governmental and other monumental buildings in the Capital. Indiana limestone will be used in their construction. John Russell Pope of New York City is the architect. Dedication Next October. The building will be dedicated during the international and world conventions of the Disciples of Christ which will be held in Wuglnzwn October 14-23, 19!0 The erection of this church is a part a three-year program in which the Dis- ciples are now engaged in celebration of the nineteen hundredth anniversary of Pentecost. This program will culminate in the conventions to be held in Wash- ington in 1930, when it is expected that many thousands of members of the communion from all over the world will be present. In each of the Catholic churches in the city tomorrow morning members of the Holy Name Society will receive holy communion in honor of the sev- enty-fifth anniversary of the definition of the dogma of the immaculate con- ception. Solemn masses and novenas will be held in the evening. Every Catholic man in Washington has been asked to receive holy communion in his respective church in celebration of the feast. Solemn high mass will be sung at Immaculate Conception Church, Eightn and N streets, at 11 o'clock. Rev. Holland of Annapolis, Md., will preach the sermon. The mass will be sung by Very Rev. John Gunzelmann of Catholic University of America. In the evening at 7:30 o'clock there will begin a solemn triduum in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary, under the title, Immaculate Conception. This will terminate Tuesday evening, when Rev. Stanislaus Czyz will receive new members in the Sodality of the Blessea Virgin. Father Czyz is spiritual di- rector of the sodality. BALTIMORE, December 7.—Whether woman pastors can occupy the vulfl:l of Presbyterian churches and be ruling elders will be considered Tuesday, when the Presbytery of Baltimore meets for its three hundred and eighty-third con- vention. If the presbytery decides that woman pastors are advisable their ordination will be recommended to the General Assembly of the church, which con- venes in Cincinnati next May. The question was brought up first at a preliminary meeting held last month at Aberdeen, Md.
