WATERING OIL WELLS. ’Crudo Petroleum Is Forced From Hole Under Pressure. PITTSBURGH () —Water pressure enables operators in the Bradford fields of Northwestern Pennsylvania to drill well where they please with the cer- ainty of getting oil. Four water wells are drilled at the corners of a square 200 to 300 feet on a side. In the center is drilled one oil well. Water is forced down the four corner wells under pressure and oil | comes up the central well. The method works, says Dr. Charles R. Pettke, professor of geology and | mineralogy at Carnegie Institute of | Technology, regardless of old wells that ay be in the vicinity.
