28 GOOD LAUDS WAYNE| AS FUTURE MODEL Secretary, at Dedication of Statue to Great Fighter, Points to His Qualities. By the Associated Press. TOLEDO, Ohio, September 16.—An imposing bronze memorial to “Mad An- thony” Wayne, American military | hero, was dedicated at the battlefield of Fallen Timbers, near here, Saturday, to mark the place where the flery gen- eral led American troops to a decisive victory over the Indians August 20, 1794, which saved for this Nation the rich territory botween the Great Lakes and the Ohio River. The statue was unveiled by Miss Imogene Van Camp of Columbus, Ohio, descendant of Willlam Sloane, a bugler in Wayne's army, in the presence of ‘Willlam Wayne, Paoli, Pa, a direct descendant. of the general, and Mrs. Frederika Hull and Miss Rilla Hull of Maumee, Ohio, descendants of Chief Little Turtle, who was Wayne's oppo- nent. Description of Statue. ‘The memorial statue is the work of Bruce Wilder Saville, It depicts Gen. Wayne standing between a rugged white settler and an Indian brave. Secretary of War James J. Good | eulogized the general as the “second | soll and first fighter of the Revolu- tion” in the dedicatory address deliv- ered before the Ohio Archaelogical and Historical Society here tonight, after | ceremonies at the battlcground. Summarizing the significance of Wayne's victory at Fallen Timbers, Good said: “Had Wayne failed in the battle of Fallen Timbers—bad he failed in the treaty council that followed—it is very probable that the Ohio River would | have been the boundary line between | the Americans and Great Britain, f in the Quebec act of years before, the British Parliament had declared the country between the Great Lakes and the Ohio to be a part of Canada.” Secretary Good's Praise. In his address Secretary Good sald in part: “In paying honor to men like An- thony Wayne we pay tribute to those qualities of fortitude, loyalty, integrity { and vision which alone in this genera- tion and generations te come can preserve and advance the Republic. If our Nation is to endure in its high mis- sion of service to humanity, these vir- tues must be emulated by the millions who throng the mighty Western em- pire that Wayne's valor won for order and freedom.” DOUKHOBOR LEADER SCORES NUDE PARADERS | Peter Veregin Says Sons of Free- dom Cult Is Not Connected ‘With His Society. By the Associated Press. VEREGIN, Saskatchewan, September 16.—Members of the Sons of Freedom ; , many of whom recently were; sentenced to jail for staging nude pa- | rades in protests against the arrest | others of their cult, were declared in an | address here last night by Peter Veregin, i Doukhobor leader, to have no connec- tion with his organization. Veregin admonished his followers to adhere strictly to the laws of the coun- | try, and said if there were any wait- ing hearing who ever had thought of | getting into a nude parade, to forever ban such idea from their minds. Respecting the Sons of Freedom, Veregin said they had no connection | with the Doukhobors, save that they | had once belonged to the community, | but the minute they left it, they had no more to do with it. soski ST Because its citizens use an average | of more than two barrels of water for | each man, woman and child each day, | Helensburgh, Scotland, has been named | e British Isles’ most thirsty town Service Promptness, Reliability, and real Satisfaction —let this old es- tablished organi tion Pack, Move, Store and Ship your goods.
