Declines Public Discussion of Former Rector’s Statements. By the Associated Press. BAR HARBOR, Me., August 24— Bishop William T. Manning, answering today an open letter addressed to him by the Rev. Dr. James Empringham in which the latter renounced his holy orders, said “the necessary ecclesias- tical action” will be taken. He declined to answer the personal attacks directed at him by Dr. Empringham. “I should not consider it right for me to enter into any public discussion of this’ matter and I have declined to do so,” said Bishop Manning in his statement. “Dr. Empringham has been divorced and remarried. This is all that need be said as to his standing in the church. Action Will Be Taken. “The religious and moral views of Dr. Empringham need not be discussed. The necessary eccleslastical action in the case will, of course, be taken."
