PHILADELPHIA, Pa, June 22—} Dr. Francis M. Taitt, for 36 years| rector of St. Paul's Church, Chester, was elected bishop coadjutor of the Protestant Episcopal Diocese of Penn- sylvania on the first ballot cast at a special convention Tuesday, in 8t. Stephen's Chureh. ‘Ten minutes after his election Dr. Taitt told the convention he would | accept. This election brings to s conclusion efforts which have been made for more than a year to obtain a bishop coadjutor to assist Bishop Garland in administering the affairs of the oldest and second largest diocese in the coun- try. Five men elected at earlier con- @ntions have declined. Dr. Taitt, who is in his dxty-el(hth year, is widely known in the diocese. He has served many years as dean of the Convocation of Chester, a member of the standing committee of the dio- cese, A member of the executive coun- cil and has represented his diocese in a number of general conventions. Dean Taitt received 121 cl votes and 76 parish votes, Dr. John Mansfield Groton, rector of Grace Church, New Bedford, Mass., received 59 _clerical votes and 35 parish votes. Dr. Robert Johnston of St. Johi Church, Washington, received 25 cler- ical votes and 10 parish votes. There were four scattered clerical votes.
