A new stage in the 1929 Star model homes demonstration will be reached tomorrow when the fifth of the series of six exhibition houses is opened to the public of Greater Washington for its month of inspection by all inter- ested in modern home design, con- struction and decoration. ‘This is & large New England colonial dwelling which has just been com- ;l:ud by Willlam D. Here is a three-story and basement house of commodious size, simple in outline, comfortable in arrangement and un- i usually attractive in the combination of materials employed. ‘The house will be open all day to- morrow and each day during the en- suing month, when visitors will be ‘welcome. To reach the house drive out Massachusetts avenue to Observatory circle, thence north on Thirty-fourth street 10 blocks to Rowland place, then unusual features. First, there is at the left rear a den or clubroom which boasts one of the four large fireplaces of the house and a vista through a rear window over the rear terraces and the 'II’LAK below Rodman street. The stairway to the den in the basement story is plas- tered in kl:;l.nl with the living quar- ters provided there. Center Hall Runs to Rear. On entering the nouse through the front door one will find himself in a commodious center hall which runs to a door opening onto a rear porch hav- ing stairs leading down to the rear yard. At the left side of the hall is a staircase having a dark stained hand rail and neatly turned uprights in white. right one-half block. An especially distinctive feature is the flooring which is of oak of random widths, some boards being of unusual widths and some narrow. Auto Yard Joint Unit. ‘The auto yard at the left of the house, reached from the street by a curved driveway is an attractive feature and one that was planned as a joint unit between this house and the ad- g:lnc home of Joseph Milans.
