INCIRABLES ONE OENTO VSO Board Invites - Public to In- spect Institution Satur- day Afternoon. The general public is invited by Mrs. Charlotte Archibald Hopkins, president, and the board of directors of the Wash- ington Home for Incurables, to visit the home's new headquarters at Wis- consin avenue and Upton street Sat- urday afternoon, so that they might see what their contributions have made possible, Mrs. Hopkins announced to- a. ‘The home, which was founded by Mrs. Charles Hill. niece-in-law of the philanthropist, W. W. Corcoran, 40 years ago, was incorporated March 6, 1889, by Mrs. . S. Everett, Miss J. Corson and E. Francis Riggs through the efforts of Mrs. Hill. The work began with 5 to 11 pa- tients, all free. But since then persons entering the home pay according to their means. An annual appropriation of $10,000 a year is made by Congress for the upkeep and maintenance of the institution. Socn after going into the home, it is explained, cancer cases were taken. The endowment fund for these cases at the home has now reached $28.000, but, according to a report issued by Mrs. Hopkins, $100,000 is needed to carry on the work. The home is characterized by Mrs. Hopkins in her report as a splendid gift to the District of Columbia, filling a want that no one has thought of be- fore and is composed of building equip- ment and land costing $562.000, with the last debt paid; with an endow- ment of $380,000 constantly growing by legacles, and with a total income from all sources of $67,000. Mrs. Hopkins' report shows that the home is now running at the rate of $72,000 a year and additional funds are necessary to care for all classes of patients, 104 of whom now are at the home, Of this number 35 are free. CANADA’S DAIRY PROFITS Council Points to Gain in U. S. Milk Consumption Through Advertising. OTTAWA, Ontario (#).— Through continuous publicity the national dairy council of Canada plans to increase the use of milk and milk products, thereby creating a larger home demand. It points out that the council of the United States increased the consump- tion of milk in that country more than one-half pint per capita per day, and other dairy products in proportion, by well directed publicity. Officers say the council already has influenced to a large extent an increased consumption of milk and its products in Canada, adding perhaps miilions of dollers to the income of Canadian dairymen. Apart from government agercies, the council is the only organ- ization working for the interest of Can- ada’s dairy industry in all its branches. PLAN SPRING PLAY.
