THE EV. BISHOP ANNOUNCES PASTOR T0 DISCUSS LENTEN LECTURES Representatives of Washing- ton Cathedral to Conduct Special Services. A series of Lenten lectures by three “different Washington Cathedral repre- sentatives, and special services in cele- bration of Ash Wednesday have been announced. An invitation is extended by Bishop James E. Freeman to resi- dents of the city and visitors to attend these lectures and services. On Wednesdays, bagtnnlng with A.lh ‘Wednesday. Dr. Henry Lubeck, LL. honorary canon of Washington c-che- dral, will lecture in the Bethlehem Chapel at 4 o'clock on “The Teachings of Our Lord.” Dr. William C. Sturgis, formerly edu- cational secretary of the Department of Missions of the Episcopal Church and now assoclated with the College of Preachers at Washington Cathedral, will lecture in the cathedral library on Pndny afternoons at 4 o'clock, begin- ng February 15. His subject will be "Con(erences on Prayer as a Science and an Art.” Right Rev. Philip M. Rhinelander, former Bishop of Pennsylvania and now warden of the College of Preachers, will give a series of lectures Thursday eve- nings in Lent at 8 o'clock at St. Mar- rets Church, Connecticut avenue arld croft place, on the subject, “Some Obstacles to Faith and How to Meet Them.” The lectures by Canon Lubeck on ‘Wednesday afternoons and by Dr. Stur- gis on Priday afternoons will be pre- ceded by zhe usual reading of evering prayer in the Bethlehem Chapel at 3:30 o'clock. The services for Ash Wednesday will begin with the celebration of the holy communion in the Bethlehem Chapel at 7:30 am. The litany will be read at 10 o'clock and at 11 o'clock there will be morning prayer with the penitential office and a sermon by the Very Rev. G. C. F. Bratenahl, dean of Washing- ton. Evening prayer will be held as usual at 3:30 o'clock. Canon Lubeck will deliver the ser- mon at the celebration of the holy communion in the Bethlehem Chapel at 11 am. tomorrow.
