FINANCIAL. BONDS ARE HEAVY IN PROFIT TAKING Pirelli 7s Score Advance. Domestic Convertibles Show Mixed Price Changes. BY CHARLES F. SPEARE. 8pecial Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, January 12. market today had a listless character and with this there was some irregu- larity in prices. A moderate amount of profit taking occurred, after the de- cided strength in some quarters of the list recently. Pirelll 7s made another substantial advance and have risen 10 points in the last two days. The Montecatini 7s were in supply and reacted 2 points. Among the domestic convertibles Anaconda 7s showed & loss of a point, and Interna- tional Telephone 4!>s were dealt In mainly around yesterday's closing level, with not much change in the oils. Some of the Cuban Sugar convertibles | were higher. Following yesterday's strength in United States Government issues there was a reaction which amounted to 13 in the long term Treasury 4s and to smalier fractions in other Treasury issues. ” Some of the speculative railroad bonds improved slightly on small trans- actions. Others, like Seaboard adjust- ments, were lower and then recovered. St. Pail adjustments were =again a favorite among bonds of this class. Only $13.652.000 bonds were sold this week, which is the smallest amount since last August and about 10 per cent of the total in the same week a year ago. There is quite a good deal of municipal financing in prospect if the borrowers and the bankers can come together on terms. BY WILLIAM F. HEFFERNAN. Special Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, January 12.—Prices were fairly firm on the Curb Exchange at the close of the week. Here and there realizing made itself felt, but it was more than offset, so far as the market as a whole was concerned, by new buying in various specialties. Among the features on the side of advance were the airplane stocks, in which there is always a large specu- lative interest. Universal Aviation and Aviation Corporation of America both made new tops in the early trading. Niles-Bement-Pond went along, with a gain of 5 points in active trading. E. W. Bliss was nearly two points lower. In the motor car gréup Stutz opened at an advance of more than 3 points, regaining Friday's loss. Auburn was bought at higher prices, responding to the unfilled orders’ statement, which| showed an increase of more than 100 per cent over that of a year ago. Ford Motor, Ltd., was fractionally lower. Activity in the Standard Oil group centered about Vacuum and Standard of Indiana. Vacuum was strong around its recent high, but Standard Oil of In- diana was heavy and worked lower. The latter was adversely affected by the con- test for proxies between the Rocke- feller and Stewart groups. Buckeye Pipe was in demand for a time. Further profit-taking came into the public utilities. United Gas Improve- ment, opening higher, more than can- celed the gain later. Mohawk Hudson lost 2 points. American Super Power o w;.s down, but the “B" stock gained n Strong spots among the industrials included Hart Parr, Libbey-Owens Sheet Glass and McGraw-Hill. All three were at new highs. PARIS BOURSE PRICES. PARIS, January 12 (#).—Prices were firm on the Bourse today. Three per cent rentes, 68 francs 32 centimes; 5 per cent loan, 97 francs 40 centimes; exchange on London, 124 francs 15 cen- times. The dollar was quoted at 25 francs 59% centimes. SCHICK HEADS | Company Reports Many “Frozen Real Estate Assets” Freed During Year. James P. Schick, vice president of the National Mortgage & Investment Co. 1004 Vermont avenue, was elected pres. ident a% the organization meeting held this week, succeeding H. Rozier Dulaney, who retired at his own urgent request. Mr. Schick has been with the company less than a year. Clarence F. Donohoe was elected vice president, William D. West treasurer, Col. M. C. Buckey secretary and Maj. Gen. William A. Holbrook chairman of the board of directors. With these offi- cers, the following directors were re- elected: Hugh A. Thrift, H. E. Doyle, W. W. Stuart, George E. Walker, H. Prescott Gatley, Frank J. Hughes, Dr. McPher- son Crichton, John J. Hamilton, Irving O. Ball, Henry W. Offutt and W. O. Peirson. Four new directors were also added t> the board, Ashton C. Jones, Maj. Gar- fleld Riley, Crandal Mackey and James W. Beller. The resignation of Mr, Dulaney was reluctantly accepted. On account of his age he is withdrawing from special activities and did not wish to carry the responsibility as head of this company for another year. It is stated, however, that he is retaining his full financial interest in the firm. The annual financial report showed that marked progress has been made during the past year in g"tmng free | many “frozen real cstate assets,” which | have for some time been hindering the company's progress. The outlook for the coming year was stated as highly favor- able. The question of resuming dividends was discussed at length, and it was de- cided to add all earnings to surplus for the present and until real estate condi- tions have become still more favorable. It will be recalled that the National Mortgage & Investment Co. recently took over the Capital Garage Co.’s prop- erties on New York avenue. It was re- ported at the meeting that the firm is deriving_a large income from this ceived offers for the property, but re- fused to sell as the offers were con- sidered not large enough. COTTON CLOSES STEADY. NEW YORK, January 12 (#).—The cotton market opened steady at an ad- vance of 12 to 15 points in response to steady cables and more favorable re- ports from the Southern spot markets. There was also :ome Southern selling which caused reactions of a few points by the end of the first half hour. There were reports of a steadier basis in the South and of a better demand, particularly in the Southwest. Private cables reported lo- cal and continental buying a< vell as trade calling on the advance in Liver- pool and said there was an active de- mand for cloth chiefly from India end China. Futures closed steady, 9 to 12 points higher; January, 20.08-10: March, 20.14; May, 20.17-19; July, 19.79-80; October, 19.59. Spot, quiet; middling, 20.35. GRAIN PRICES RISE.
